Background.................. Stephanie Anderson-Komuro
Grew up in Wellington, New Zealand. On leaving high school went to Sydney, began oil painting and studied and worked at the University of NSW. Lived at various times in NZ, Hong Kong, the UK, the USA and Japan. In each of these countries painted and exhibited, but most work is done on commission.

Studied, practiced, exhibited, won various awards in NZ, Australia (e.g., Royal Art Society of N.S.W., portrait award), Hong Kong (studied Chinese brush painting), Japan (sumi-e brush painting and traditional nihonga), etc.
Invited to the USA to do portrait work. Comissioned paintings include portraits of Sir Edmund Hillary, author Earnest K. Gann, numerous politicians (inc. G. Bush Snr., K. Holyoake); more recently, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavorotti.
Special interest has been in Maori portraits. Spent several years in NZ seeking out elderly moko-ed Maori women. (One Maori portrait painting was on loan from the owner for several years to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in NZ for display in their Beehive Offices; another, painted on commision, loaned to the Dowse Gallery in Lower Hutt. Sketches were given to the Maori sitters, others sold. Oil paintings remain in artist's collection.)
In Japan, commissioned to do several series of paintings for corporate clients such as Asahi Television and Star Micronics.
